Where do I start?

I often get asked where to start if you’re trying to learn more about photography.  Now, with DSLRs getting cheaper and cheaper, more and more people are getting into the world of DSLR cameras and are wanting to start taking better photographs.  So, whether you’re trying to figure out your new camera or if you’re just trying to learn what all the other buttons and settings on your current camera do, here is a list of some websites and resources that were useful for me when I was just getting started.  I hope this helps!

Tips From The Top Floor

This is a great site that covers all kinds of topics ranging from the absolute basics to more advanced features and techniques.  There is also a podcast available that you can subscribe to and load onto your iPod/mp3 player for on-the-go listening/learning.

Outdoor Photographer

Good site for photography tips geared towards the outdoor/landscape photographer.

Digital Photography Review

Great site filled with reviews and user forums specific to your camera, other photo gear, and general photography topics.  The forums can be a great source of information from a wide variety of people ranging from beginners to pros.  You may have to sort through some of posts to find useful info, but it’s nice to communicate with and read posts from real people who understand what you’re going through when learning your camera/photography.

Photo.net

This site has a vast array of information on all kinds of photography topics – everything from photo basics to techniques for specific subjects and even information for starting your own photography business.

PhotoWorkshop.com

This specific link is to PhotoWorkshop’s Learning Centers page which contains various links to multiple online learning centers provided by photo industry manufacturers.  One of the best links on this site is to Canon’s DLC (Digital Learning Center), which is the next link…

Canon’s Digital Learning Center

One of my favorites, especially if you’re just starting out and/or you have a Canon DSLR camera.  This site features interactive and animated tutorials on some of Canon’s main DSLR cameras.  There are also lessons for photography basics like exposure, metering, white balance, lens selection, etc.
